Arts Scholarships

WHAT IS IT? Each year, the Arts Council of San Leandro awards two $1000.00 scholarships to deserving high school seniors to use in their education in some field of the arts.

WHO CAN APPLY? If you are interested and meet the following requirements, we encourage you to apply for a scholarship!

1. You must be a high school senior. You must be enrolled in a San Leandro high school, or a San Leandro resident enrolled in a high school elsewhere. Scholarships are available to seniors actively involved in the arts through their school or other programs. “Arts” includes visual and performing arts of all types, including but not limited to:

2. You must have an overall grade point average of 2.5 of better, on a 4.0 scale.

3. You must have at least two (but no more than four) letters of recommendation. These may not be from relatives; at least one must be from a teacher or other person familiar with your artistic ability.

WHAT CAN I USE IT FOR? Scholarship funds must be used for costs related to further education or training in the selected field, such as tuition at a college or other institution, supplies, books, special tutoring or instruction, etc. Prior to December 31, 2007, scholarship recipients must submit written evidence to the Arts Council that they are enrolled in a study program that advances their art education. Upon receipt of this evidence, the Arts Council will release the scholarship funds to the designated recipients.

HOW ARE RECIPIENTS CHOSEN? Applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee of the Arts Council of San Leandro, and final selection will be made by the Arts Council at its April 2007 meeting. Announcement of the awards will be provided to local newspapers and to the respective schools for inclusion in any awards presentation ceremonies. An appropriate public recognition and presentation of awards will be held by the Arts Council in the spring.

HOW DO I APPLY? You must submit a complete application (copy attached) to the address below (if no application is attached, see your school staff scholarship official or pick up one at a San Leandro library). Your application and all accompanying material must received no later that 5:00 P.M. Friday, March 30,
2007. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Envelopes must have the following information clearly written on the outside. “Application for Arts Council of San Leandro Scholarship 2007, Attn: Arts Council”. Submit all application materials in a single large manila envelope to:
